A whistleblower is someone who reports an employer's illegal actions to the proper outside authority. Illegal action could include violations of law or conduct that directly threatens public interest. Whistleblower laws protect you from being retaliated against by your employer. Retaliation may include termination, demotion, and reduction of work hours or pay. Both federal and Washington State law protects employees who report their employer's illegal actions.
In Washington State, however, whistleblower laws only protect public employees--employees who work for the state. Washington State Auditor's Office is responsible for investigating complaints of improper government action. If the State Auditor's Office decides to initiate an investigation into your allegations, your identity will remain confidential.
At MBE Law Group, our employment attorneys will not only help you recover your damages, but we will seek swift justice for any retaliation you have been forced to endure.
